Duterte appoints new Mines chief

Mania, Philippines - President Rodrigo Duterte has appointed a new Mines and Geosciences Bureau chief.

Based on Presidential Directive no. 002, Duterte appointed Mario Luis Jacinto as the new Mines and Bureau Director, replacing Leo Jasareno.

As head of the said bureau and a Natural Resources Undersecretary, Jacinto will oversee the organization and operation of the Environmental Management Bureau.

Jacinto will be working with Environment Secretary Gina Lopez in reviewing mining permit.

Jacinto is a former chief of the regional and Davao City Environment and Natural Resources Office.

Prior to this, President Duterte condemns mining operations who violate the law and disrespects nature.  The President has tasked the said agency to review all mining contracts.
