Philippines - Malacanang plans to use the Php200billion Malampaya funds to lessen electric charge against its consumers.

During the hearing of the Senate Committee on Energy headed by Sen. Sherwin Gatchalian, Energy Sec. Alfonso Cusi said that in the previous meeting with the Cabinet Economic Cluster, they already discussed the possibility of using the Malampaya funds to cover for the universal charges, causing the spike in electric bills.

However, before doing that, the government needs to amend the constitution first.

Meanwhile, Senate Minority leader Ralph Recto promised that he will be pushing for this to materialize because the 25 percent that consumers pay in their electric bills, is not because of their consumption but because of the added taxes. with reports from Kristine Dela Cruz via RH News
