MANILA, Philippines – Defending champion San Miguel Beer may be without import Arizona Reid as it tries to cling on a spot in the Top Four in facing old rival Alaska Milk in the PBA Governors Cup at the Smart Araneta Coliseum tonight.
Reid complained of a sore Achilles tendon after their 92-98 loss to GlobalPort Friday and was still a mere spectator in practice yesterday.
The Beermen and the Aces, title protagonists in three of the last five PBA conferences, slug it out at 7 p.m. after the 4:15 p.m. curtain raiser between the Meralco Bolts and the NLEX Road Warriors.
San Miguel coach Leo Austria said Reid’s injury is being assessed on a day-to-day basis.
Meanwhile, Sheryl Reyes, Reid’s agent, said her player has been advised by his doctor to take a rest.
“Due to his tendinitis, AZ Reid won’t be playing (today) and the next games until he is healed,” Reyes posted on her Twitter account.”
San Miguel (4-2) and Meralco (4-3) try to crowd TNT KaTropa (6-2), Barangay Ginebra (5-2) and Mahindra (5-2) in the Top Five in tangling with Alaska (2-4) and NLEX (3-3).
A major concern for San Miguel, though, is Reid’s injury.
“I’m not going to play if I continue to play like this. It happens. Injuries are part of the sport and my Achilles (expletive) up,” said Reid after their 92-98 loss to GlobalPort.
