Manila, Philippines - Senator Leila De Lima refused to be interpellated by Senator Alan Peter Cayetano following her privilege speech on alleged extra-judicial killings.
Because of this, Cayetano had no choice but to have his own speech to defend President Rodrigo Duterte.
Cayetano denied De Lima’s allegations of extra-judicial killings and or summary executions amid the administration’s intensified campaign against illegal drugs.
Cayetano reminded De Lima that during the President’s inaugural speech, he will let the Commission on Human Rights do their job if there are complaints of abuse with his administration’s campaign against illegal drugs.
Senator Cayetano insisted that it would be unfair for President Duterte to blame him on all the incidents of summary executions, since there have been no investigation amid the on-going government’s campaign in fighting off illegal drugs.
Meanwhile, Commission on Human Rights Chairman Chisto Gascon was present at the Senate on Tuesday to witness the privilege speech of Senator De Lima, focused on drug-related killings.
