Ombudsman suspends Makati Mayor Binay

By Louie U. Navarro, 9News Online

The Office of the Ombudsman on Wednesday, March 11, suspended Makati Mayor Jejomar Erwin "Junjun" S. Binay Jr. for six months amid corruption allegations surrounding the construction of the controversial Makati City Hall Building II.

“[The Ombudsman] preventively suspends Mayor Binay, Jr., et al. for six months, pending investigation of the Makati carpark complaint,” the Ombudsman’s official Twitter account said Wednesday morning.

The Ombudsman earlier filed malversation, falsification, and other corruption charges against the mayor and his father, Vice President Jejomar Binay – along with 22 others.

The Binays are accused of padding the costs of city government projects during respective their terms as mayor of Makati.

The suspension order, however, does not include the vice president as no administrative raps were filed against him over the Makati carpark case.

The camps of both Binays have yet to issue a comment as of posting time.
