Shawn Carter in real life, the renowned musician founded Roc Nation Sports in 2013, a company that banners names such as Kevin Durant and Wilson Chandler, among others. Roc Nation Sports branched out into boxing in August 2014, and signed reigning WBA super middleweight champion Andre Ward.

On Thursday, it was announced that WBC middleweight champion Miguel Cotto has officially signed with the company, leaving long-time promoter Top Rank.

Cotto himself made the announcement through ESPN.com.

"Miguel Cotto Promotions now has an alliance with Roc Nation Sports, and we are more than happy to announce that," said the 34-year old Cotto.

The Puerto Rican boxer last fought in June 2014, where he won his title against Argentine sensation Sergio Martinez via tenth round stoppage. After the said bout, Cotto was lined up to face Saul "Canelo" Alvarez in a supposed Puerto Rico vs. Mexico super fight this year. However, the two camps failed to reach common ground and the deal eventually fell apart.

Cotto is now scheduled to fight on June 6th, although his opponent is yet to be named. But for his part, the four-division world champion is aiming for a fight in New York City, a place he often referred to as his second home.

"We are really happy to have this partnership with Roc Nation, and we are going to do our best as always to fight at the same level I have always fought at," said Cotto. "We are going to discuss the opponents and the venue, but the best option for us is to be in New York."
