Deadline for reservations on March 13, 2015
MANILA, Philippines - Due to overwhelming public demand, the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas said it was minting more special edition coins commemorating Pope Francis' visit to Manila last January. The BSP said the increase in the production of the Pope Francis commemorative coins was approved by the Vatican, under an amended licensing agreement.
"The commemorative coins for Pope Francis are the fastest-selling so far among the special coins minted by the BSP," it said.
There are four commemorative coins available:
- 50-piso coin with packaging - selling price P100
- 500-piso coin in box - P1,000
- 1,000 piso silver coin in box - P3,500
- 10,000 piso gold coin in box - P25,000
The additional commemorative coins will be available only in the next few months. The BSP said the materials for the minting and packaging will still undergo public bidding.
However, reservations for Papal coins will close on March 13, earlier than the original June 30, 2015 deadline.
Coin orders made up to March 6 will be fully served as supply becomes available.
Orders received up to March 13 will be served on a pro-rata basis, depending on the actual remaining inventory.
For those who ordered coins, the BSP will issue a confirmation email on the special date and place of the pick-up. This email must be shown as proof of order when claiming the coins.
Payment will be made in cash at the BSP's Cash Department for pick-up in Metro Manila, and at designated BSP regional and branch offices outside Metro Manila.
Those who wish to reserve can download reservation forms for the P50 and P500-coins here, and for the P1,000 and P10,000-coins here.
The accomplished forms should then be submitted to papalcoins@bsp.gov.ph before March 13, 2015.
