Manila, Philippines - Navotas Rep. Toby Tiangco has filed the “no work, no pay” policy bill for lawmakers who are always absent during sessions in Congress.

According to Tiangco, there will be salary deductions for members of the House of Representatives in their monthly salaries if they fail to show up in a hearing or session at the lower house.

Tiangco added that he penned the said bill to promote ‘professionalism’ in Congress.

The lawmaker added that it takes awhile to pass bills in Congress because a lot of its members are absent.

Former Saranggani representative and now Senator Manny Pacquiao has the most number of absents in Congress. He was only able to attend four session days throughout his term as Congressman.

In other news, the first bill that the 17th Congress will ratify is the reinstating of the death penalty in the country.

Davao Del Norte Rep. Pantaleon Alvarez filed a bill wherein the death penalty by lethal injection will be imposed against criminals involved in heinous crimes.

According to Alvarez, the increasing number of crimes in the country is alarming.
The solon added that there is no other solution to put an end to criminals in the country aside from death penalty.
