Gamiaw Weather Report: Update on typhoon Carina





Typhoon Carina continues to maintain its strength as it approach Eastern Luzon.

Based on the latest update of PAGASA, Carina was last spotted with a distance of 135 kilometers East Northeast of Borongan City, Eastern Samar with strong winds of up to 45 kilometers per hour near its center.

The typhoon is moving towards North northwest with a speed of 11 kilometers per hour.

In line with this, expect moderate to heavy rains in the Bicol region, Eastern Visayas and Caraga region, which may possibly bring in flashfloods and landslides.

At 8:00 a.m., Saturday, 30 July 2016Tropical Depression "CARINA" has accelerated further and maintained its strength.

  • Very light or no damage to low risk structures,
  • Light damage to medium to high risk structures
  • Slight damage to some houses of very light materials or makeshift structures in exposed communities. Some banana plants are tilted, a few downed and leaves are generally damaged
  • Twigs of small trees may be broken.
  • Rice crops, however, may suffer significant damage when it is in its flowering stage.

  • Estimated rainfall amount is from moderate to heavy within the 300 km diameter of the Tropical Depression.
  • Fisherfolk are alerted against moderate to rough seas over the eastern seaboard of Luzon and Visayas.
  • Areas under TCWS #1, the rest of Visayas and the provinces of Camarines Norte and Masbate are alerted against moderate to heavy rains which may trigger flashfloods and landslides
  • The public and the disaster risk reduction and management council concerned are advised to take appropriate actions and watch for the next weather bulletin to be issued at 11 AM today
