Manila, Philippines - Some Senators shared their personal reaction on what is being considered a landmark decision by the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea, following the United Nations International Tribunal’s decision, favoring the Philippines.
In spite of the favorable decision to our country, Angara said that we should always exercise Diplomacy.
The said decision will only strengthen the Philippines stand on the issue of the West Philippine Sea.
Angara added that though China has no intention of respecting the said ruling, the country expects a massive support from other countries.
Senator Joel Villanueva on the other hand praised the commitment of the Philippine government for a peaceful resolution on the maritime disputes with China.
Senator Francis Pangilinan meanwhile said that the ruling of the tribunal will give the country an opportunity to push for the bilateral talks with China.
Senate President Franklin Drilon mentioned that the decision of the International Tribunal will serve as a way to ease down the tension, iron out misunderstandings and bring back the good relationship among the nations in the ASEAN region.
