Manila, Philippines - The Senate expressed its support on the legislative agenda of President Rodrigo Duterte on the opening of the 17th Congress this coming Monday.

According to incoming Senate President Koko Pimentel, they are expecting the President to mention during his first State of the Nation Address the bills that his administration will prioritized.

These bills include the charter change, wherein the country will have a shift from its presidential form of government to Federalism.

Meanwhile, outgoing Senate President Franklin Drilon would want to hear from Duterte’s first SONA the President promise of salary hike to police officers, amid the government’s intensified campaign against criminality.

Senator Bam Aquino hopes that the President’s SONA will include his government’s plan in Education, Poverty reduction and additional jobs.

Senator Sonny Angara said that he is hoping that President Duterte will ask the two houses of Congress to pass the bill on tax reform.

In line with the upcoming legislative agenda of the President, the Senate expects that there will be heated debates when it comes to the issue of reinstating the death penalty.
