Manila, Philippines - Government officials are exempted from the Bank Secrecy Law filed by Senator Panfilo Lacson.
According to the Senator, it would be faster to investigate government officials with alleged ill-gotten wealth in their banks if they are not protected by the said law.
Lacson added that this law aims to prohibit officials from gaining too much wealth while in government.
The former Rehabilitation Czar insisted that his bill seeks to amend Section 2 of Republic Act 1405, wherein officials of the government, from the President to regular employees will be excluded from the said law.
