The Philippine National Police (PNP) urged yesterday the public, especially those in Metro Manila, not to panic amid circulating text messages about the alleged bombing plans in the metropolis.

Chief Supt. Generoso Cerbo Jr., PNP spokesman, said they have not received any report about any alleged plot targeting stations of the Metro Rail Transit and other public places in Pasig, Makati, Quezon City and Taguig.

The SMS (short messaging system) is advising the people to go home early and avoid crowded areas like MRT stations and malls, citing intelligence information about the bombing plot in the four cities. “Our intel unit has monitored a Muslim group that is behind this and possibly hiding in Maharlika Village in Taguig,” the text noted.

The text message, supposedly from government intel operatives, stated that the intelligence units of the police and military are now closely monitoring the bomb plot.
Instead of being disturbed by the alleged plot, Cerbo advised that people to exercise vigilance, noting that terror groups usually take advantage of public fear.
