The operations of the Metro Rail Transit (MRT) Line 3 suffered another glitch when the brake system of one of its light rail vehicles (LRVs) malfunctioned shortly after leaving a Makati City station Friday morning.

Reports said an MRT-3 coach made a sudden stop at around 8:20 a.m. after it left the Buendia station, causing its driver to ask the passengers to alight in the next station.

It was not immediately clear if there were passengers hurt but the reports said the abrupt stop caused them "to fall like dominoes."

MRT-3 general manager Roman Buenafe said the passengers were picked up by another coach at the Ayala station.

He noted that it was best that the passengers were dropped off at the nearest station as a precaution.
This weekend, the management will close MRT-3 operations starting at 9 p.m. Saturday (Feb. 28) and reopen at 12 noon Sunday (March 1) to give way to rail replacement works.

Buenafe earlier said that 150 meters' worth of stabling rails from the MRT depot will be used to replace the more critical portions of the mainline between Taft Ave., Pasay City and Magallanes, Makati City.- PNA— KBAPI
