Manila - President Rodrigo Duterte said he will try to save the life of Mary Jane Veloso, the Filipina on death row in Indonesia due to a drug trafficking case.
The President said that he will talk with Indonesian President Joko Widodo in the most respectful way to save Veloso’s life.
However, Duterte said that in case Widodo refused his appeal, he will accept whatever decision the Indonesian government will have on the fate of Veloso.
Duterte reiterated that he respects and trusts Indonesia’s judicial system.
Veloso was set to be executed on April 2015, but was spared at the last minute after the Aquino administration presented her alleged recruiter, who is suspected of tricking Veloso into bringing in drugs into Indonesia.
