MANILA - The “Karapatan” group is challenging the Armed Forces of the Philippines to follow the directive of President Rodrigo Duterte to erase the remaining CAFGU members in some communities in Mindanao.

Karapatan Secretay General Cristina Palabay made the statement after President Duterte ordered the military to halt the opertions of more than 25 paramilitary groups amid the on-going peace talks between the government and the CPP-NPA-NDF.

According to Palabay, the paramilitary troops like the Magahat-Bagani are responsible in the allegedly killing of some of the farm leaders in Bukidnon, Surigao province and North Cotabato.
During his speech in Cagayan De Oro, the President said that the presence of the Civilian Armed Groups in some communities could ruin the on-going peace talks with the communist group.

In line with this, AFP Public Affairs Office Chief Col. Edgard Arevalo refused to comment on the said challenge from the Karapatan group until they receive a former order from President Duterte.
