MANILA - The pilot of the Saudi Arabian airlines already explained its version on the alleged false hijacking alarm incident at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport, which happened on Tuesday.

Based on the statement of the pilot of Saudia flight SV 872 to the Philippine National Police-Aviation Security Group, he tried contacting the Manila Tower 17 times after accidentally sending out a “distress call.”

However, no one took notice of his call, therefore he intentionally sent out another “distress call” to clarify his mistake of sending out the first alarm.

Meanwhile, Eric Apolonio, spokesman of the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines,  refused to comment on the statement of the pilot.

Apolonio said that they are still finishing the final report which will then be submitted to the General Authority of Civil Aviation of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, so that they can take the necessary actions regarding the said incident.

The four pilots in the cockpit and the 17 flight crew have undergone behavioral and tactical questioning to find out if there was a mistake in basic airline protocol.

On Tuesday, more than 413 passengers were put on hold for a few hours, most of them Muslims who came from the pilgrimage in Mecca because of the said incident
