Manila, Philippines - The Duterte administration will allocate Php82 Billion for the Armed Forces of the Philippines’ modernization program.

This was confirmed by a senior Defense official who refused to be named.

Under the proposed 2017 national budget, the Department of National Defense will have a budget of Php130 Billion or equivalent to US$ 2.8 billion.

Based on the document of the DND, the country will acquire two surveillance planes and six close-air support planes which will be used in combating the Abu Sayyaf Group.

Meanwhile, the government also has allocated the payment for 10 FA-50 jets which the Aquino administration bought from a South Korean company.  Two of the said fighter jets have been delivered already.
