MANILA, Philippines - The Bureau of Immigration (BI) has reported that its revenue collection for 2014 is its highest since its establishment in 1940.

In a statement released to the media, BI Commissioner Siegfred Mison attributed the P3.022-billion income last year to an "increased and more professional workforce."

This figure is P36.628 million higher than the P2.985 billion collection recorded in 2013.

The agency said the record-high revenue "reflects the extent of the compliance of foreign nationals with immigration and registration laws."

"We will always be thankful to our Secretary of Justice, the Secretary of Budget and Management, and the President, for hearing out our need for additional personnel," Mison said.

In 2014, the agency implemented the one-way processing of visa transactions. Field offices were also put up in malls for the public's easier access, and cashless payments allowed.

After more than three years of procurement activities, more than 200 passport readers and computer sets were also procured and installed at airport counters.
