NDF welcomes Duterte’s proposed ceasefire

Manila, Philippines - The National Democratic Front of the Philippines welcomes the declaration of President Rodrigo Duterte of a unilateral ceasefire between the government and the communist group.

Duterte, during his first State of the Nation Address said that “If we cannot love one another, then in god’s name let as not hate each other too much,” therefore he is proposing a unilateral ceasefire and hopes that the communist party will follow suit.

In a statement, Jose Maria Sison, Chief Political Consultant of the NDF said that they appreciate the President’s declaration in achieving long term peace in the country.

In line with this, Sison said that he is one with Duterte’s goal to resume the formal peace talks between the government and the CPP-NPA-NDF group.
