CA supports removal of 15-year-old buses

Manila, Philippines - The Court of Appeals (CA) supported the order of the Department of Transportation and Communications (DOTC) to phase out buses that are 15 years and older.

The CA recognized the need to modernize the transport system to ensure the safety of the public. The court cited the increase of accidents involving old and smoky buses as the basis for its decision.

The DOTC, in an order released back in 2002,  mandated the removal of old buses. To date, however,  many old buses continue to operate in Metro Manila and provinces.
