Duterte orders AFP, PNP to ‘tone down’ security at SONA

Manila, Philippines - President Rodrigo Duterte ordered the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) and Philippine National Police (PNP) to be easy on security for his first ever State of the Nation Address on July 25.

However, AFP-National Capital Region Joint Task Force Deputy Commander Col. Vic Tomas clarified that the president’s order is to ensure that the security preparations will not cause inconvenience to motorists.

Despite of the President’s request, the official assured the public that the security during the SONA will remain tight to ensure the safety of the commander-in-chief and other VIPs who will attend the prestigious occasion.

There is no monitored security threats for the upcoming first SONA of Duterte on July 25.
