Vice President Leni reacts on Davao blast

Manila, Philippines - Vice President Leni Robredo extends her condolences to the families of the 14 victims and those that were injured in Friday night’s blast at a night market in Davao City.

VP Leni condemns the said crime which the Abu Sayyaf Group has since claimed responsibility.
Robredo calls for unity and cooperation among Filipinos in order to combat terrorism.

The Vice President has also asked the public to remain calm, and be one in praying for justice, peace and order in our country.

Meanwhile, the Armed Forces of the Philippines is ready to deploy additional troops in case the Eastern Mindanao Command need reinforcement following the Davao blast.

According to AFP Spokesman Brig. Gen. Restituto Padilla, together with the Philippine National Police, the military is now on alert following President Rodrigo Duterte’s declaration of a ‘state of lawlessness.”

As of press time, 15 have been killed while 70 individuals were injured from the night market blast.
Authorities have also tightened its security measures on the city, with checkpoints on all entry and exit areas.
