Manila, Philippines - BAYAN MUNA Cong. Carlos Zarate made a warning to the government of its plan to resurrect the Bataan Nuclear Power Plant, which has not been used for a few decades.

According to Zarate, chairman of the House Committee on Natural Resources, operating the said nuclear plant again will just bring in more danger than benefits.

Zarate added that there are a lot of issues that have yet to be resolved including health, safety, economic and nuclear waste disposal issues.

The lawmaker said that these issues should be resolved by the Energy officials from the Duterte administration before they could insist on re-opening operations at the Bataan Nuclear Power Plant.
Zarate insisted that even the International Atomic Energy Agency said that the BNPP failed in the safety location requirement because it is near a volcano and fault line.

Instead of the NBPP, Rep. Zarate said that the government should invest on renewable energy sources to make sure that the country will have a safe supply of energy.
