Manila - Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte is set to explain to the international community why the country needs to change during the ASEAN Summit in Laos next week.

According to Asst. Sec. Maria Hellen Dela Vega from the office of the Department of Foreign Affairs on ASEAN Affairs, President Duterte wants the international community to understand that he wants real change in the Philippines, especially his campaign against illegal drugs.

Dela Vega added that the President is not just particular in the change he wants to see, but is also keen on implementing these changes as soon as possible.

Aside from these, Duterte is also targeting to get the support of other ASEAN countries for the chairmanship of the Philippines in 2017, which will center on achieving these changes.

The ASEAN Summit will be held from September 6-8. The Philippine delegates include DFA Sec. Perfecto Yasay Jr., Trade and Industry Sec. Ramon Lopez, and Social Welfare and Development Sec. Judy Taguiwalo.
