Japanese Navy training squadron in Manila for goodwill visit

MANILA, Philippines --The training squadron of the Japan Maritime Self Defense Force arrived in Manila on October 24 for a goodwill visit to the Philippines to enhance friendship with the Philippine Navy.

The training squadron, commanded by JMSDF Rear Adm. Hidetoshi Iwasaki, is docked at South Harbor, Manila, and will be staying from October 23 to 27 for the five-day goodwill visit.

The visit includes a series of engagements between the PN personnel and their counterparts such as ship tour, courtesy call to navy leadership, goodwill games and receptions for cultural exchanges.

The division is composed of three vessels: The JS Kashima (TV-3508), JS Setoyuki (TV-3518) and JS Asagiri (DD-151). The squadron has 190 newly commissioned officers on board.

The Philippine Navy vessel BRP Rajah Humabon met the vessels in the vicinity of Corregidor Island and escorted them to their designated docking area.

PN delegates also provided a customary welcome ceremony at the pier followed by a port briefing with topics on security, safety and health.
