Manila, Philippines - Globe Telecom Inc. plans to activate 200 cell sites in the next few months, using the 700 megahertz (MHz) spectrum in an effort to improve mobile Internet service, the company said in a statement Wednesday.
"The company is looking to use the 700 MHz in more sites throughout the country, emphasizing that this particular spectrum is one of the most efficient bands in the deployment of LTE technology," said Joel Agustion, Globe SVP for Program Governance, Network Technical Group.
"The 700MHz band is the ideal spectrum for LTE deployment due to its longer reach and better indoor penetration qualities,” Agustin added.
Globe noted it is the first telco in the country to tap the 700 MHz spectrum less than a week after a co-acquisition of the telecom assets of San Miguel Corp. in late May.
