Philippines - Going after the Abu Sayyaf Group posts a big challenge to the incoming Duterte administration.
According to Senator-elect Panfilo Lacson, he believes that the ASG’s violence will end if the government will impose a tougher ultimatum against the said group.
Lacso added that if we base it on experience and with the words that incoming President Rodrigo Duterte expressed in his recent interviews, all elements in order to eliminate the Abu Sayyaf are with the next administration.
Lacson insists that the right time to eliminate the Abu Sayyaf group is now, under the Duterte administration.
Meanwhile, Lacson also mentioned that he is ready to support the proposal to give president-elect Duterte emergency powers.
Lacson said that Duterte needs to prioritize getting rid of the ASG.
He added that the government need strong force against the ASG, even if it means killing them.
The country needs a good and patient intel work so that they will have an exact understanding of their target, and avoid getting “burn” with their operations.
Canadian national Robert Hall was beheaded by the ASG on Monday after his family and the government failed to give the ransom money the rebel group demanded.
