MANILA, Philippines -- President Rodrigo Duterte has appointed dancer and blogger Mocha Uson as a member of the Movie and Television Review and Classification Board.

Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea confirmed Uson's appointment in a text message Thursday.

Asked why the president named Uson to the post, Presidential Communications Secretary Martin Andanar replied: "Why not?"

"Mocha is an artist. She is one of the biggest artists we have in the country. She's been in the show business world for more than a decade already," Andanar said in a chance interview.

"She is an educated person. She is one of the biggest bloggers in the Philippines," he added.

Uson is a staunch supporter of Duterte who has been using her blog to hit critics of the administration, including the media. She is also the leader of the all-female sexy group Mocha Girls

Before campaigning for Duterte, Uson appeared in daring flicks and sex instructional videos.

Uson has decried what she described as sexist attacks against her and has urged critics to focus on her arguments rather than her past.

The MTRCB, created by President Ferdinand Marcos in 1985, is tasked with reviewing films and shows.

It has the authority to censor material that "in the judgment of the board applying contemporary Filipino cultural values as standard, are objectionable for being immoral,  indecent, contrary to law and/or good customs, injurious to the prestige of the Republic of the Philippines or its people, or with a dangerous tendency to encourage the commission of violence or of a wrong or crime."
