'Yun-'yon, Opinyon!: Marcos was No Hero, but was a Soldier

By Emanym Si Yaj

That famous Filipino line "Hindi lahat ng nasa simbahan ay banal at hindi lahat ng nagsisimba ay maliligtas" is now synonymous to that of "Hindi lahat ng mga nakalibing sa libingan ng mga bayani ay totoong mga Bayani".

Search everywhere and you'll see the people's strong reactions about the controversial decision of PH' highest court - SC, Allowing the burial of the Ex. Pres. Marcos to the Heroe's Cemetery. Alot of you is saying that he wasn't a hero and do not deserve a single place to LB. You all has your say and we all respect that. Whether you and the majority of the Filipinos view are in contrast to that of the magistrates of SC, may we all bestow respect to them and to the decision they made, remember they are there to oversee and make sure that the law of the land is properly executed and served.Marcos may not be a hero in our eyes. He may or may not be the brain of the assasination to the ex. Sen. Aquino and may or may not also be the mastermind of the left and right killings that happened in his time (administration), but you see those things are in the middle of true and false - claims that until now, is yet to be proven.

The main reason that deprived the Ex. President his right to be buried to a resting place where he also deserved. Look he was a former soldier (which most of you are also disputing as it was doctored accordig to some claims), he was a President for so many years and finally, he erected establishments that until now our fellow countrymen are benefiting from and which made the PH once "a tiger nation" during his time. Its true that the late President might have downsides, but who does not have it? Everyone of us has and that shouldn't be a reason for us to deprive and deny him get an everlasting peace. 27 years of lying without eternal peace is enough for him to pay for whatever sins he may have committed to humanity during his time.

The Marcoses on-the-other-hand have spoken that they do not want to alter the history, people are still free to call the former President as "dictator" or for whatever name callings the families of the so called "human rights victims" may call upon him. Cong. Imee Marcos insisted that they neither want a state funeral for their father nor a grand burial ceremony, a simple one will do for them.

As to the question, Why at LB (Heroes' Cemetery) and not to where other Presidents were buried, can be answered by this: Think of why Former President Erap Estrada was incarcerated in a cozy and comfortable cell than those of the regular inmates in other penitentiary cells? The answer is very simple: Erap's camp definitely has connections, money and knowledge about their rights. They know how to fight for their rights as warranted by our existing lays (laws). The same is being used by the Marcoses. That is why they were inspired to appeal the case to the Supreme Court, which the latter ruled in favor of the Marcoses arguing that hence the former President was a former member of the Armed Forces of the Philippines, whose members are guaranteed a place at LB after their death can then be unquestionably be buried at LB.

Call them aristocrat, naïve and all other name callings you may think but it is what it is and they are who they really are. The soul of what others call "Dictator" had been restless for 27 years because of his Family's pride aiming to get a spot at LB. Without their knowledge they themselves caused additional burdens to the soul of the deceased. But thanks to the SC's decision the former President can finally rest in peace. The higher court ruled over their appeal and unfortunately for those who opposes the outcome this case is now closed, so no matter what steps and or actions we do to oppose it, that will remain a meaningless noise as we all know that SC has the final say about it. Whatever their decision will be considered final. So what we can do now is move on and accept that this battle has come to its end and whether you are a pro-Marcos who may be celebrating your victory for winning this fight or an anti-Marcos who sees him as No hero, respect is the keyword we all need to share. That's the bottom line here.

For the victims of "Human rights", that's another case, complaints that are yet to be decided. Even the International court cannot decide over this claim as no substantial evidence(s) can be presented by the complainants, a solid one which will pinpoint the Marcoses being the culprit of it, of course the stories about it is widespread and there are many radio, tv and newspaper reports about the killings pointing the former President to be the mastermind of it, but don't you think they were politically fabricated too?

So the question now is: Are the Marcoses really capable of doing so when they knew within themselves that such actions will backfire on them? Two Aquinoses have assumed Malacanang Office, yet none of these administrations pursued filing a case against the Marcoses or to the late President alone. Why? Could it be because the report about Danding Cojuanco being the mastermind of the assassination is true at all and the Aquinos have indepth knowledge about it? Now, assuming that Mr. Cojuanco, a direct relative of former President Cory Aquino, uncle of ex. President Noynoy, the mastermind of the assassination to former Sen. Benigno Aquino, could we still claim that "Filipinos are worth dying for Ninoy"?

As I mentioned above, this took place more than 27 years ago. The late President for sure had paid for whatever consequences he should be paying here on earth. Now is the time for him to face our Creator in heaven. We are not the right person to judge him and obstruct the call of heaven for his eternal peace. Instead of doing so, let us instead try to do the following:

*Pray for the eternal repose of the soul of the former President and all the departed souls.
**Be vigilant and be very active in humanitarian causes and or campaigns that will help save lives. We may not get the lives of the many who unfortunately were victimized under the Marcos era as that happened in the past. What we can do is save the future. We can save lives under this current

Administration whose violation to human rights is also widespread. There are more than 3k victims of Extra-Judicial killings whose lives are wasted because of this Administration's intensive campaign against drugs. If there would be things that we need to guard on is our present and our future, so we can avoid the nightmares of the past.

To our youths: Let this be cleared though that I am not a pro-Marcos nor an anti one. I am writing purely because I want to exercise my right to a freedom of expression(s) as warranted and guaranteed under our bill of rights, and at the same time to educate you all how fair judgement should be. One that is neutral in every way. So, please be guided accordingly.

Let us not be an instrument to another year of burden and sufferings of the former leader. Let us offer him to God for his final judgment and instead of questioning the higher court's decision, let us do him a favor - pray for his eternal peace, we are all sinners, yet we all deserves an everlasting peace.
