MANILA, Philippines - Malacañang said it respects the decision of National Historical Commission of the Philippines chairperson Maria Serena Diokno to quit from her post and thanked her for her service.
Presidential spokesman Ernesto Abella said the Office of the Executive Secretary has received the resignation letter of Diokno.
"We respect Chair Diokno’s decision and we thank her for the services she rendered to the nation as she headed the commission responsible for the conservation and preservation of the country’s historical legacies,” Abella said in a statement.
Abella, however, maintained that the Supreme Court has ruled in favor of President Rodrigo Duterte’s decision to bury former president Ferdinand Marcos at the Libingan ng mga Bayani.
“The president has said that the Supreme Court has ruled and that he respects and abides by the decision of the High Court,” Abella said.
Diokno resigned from her post because she disagreed with Duterte’s decision to allow the interment of the late dictator at the hero’s cemetery.
