Happy Mother's Day!

By: Aram Odumerb

Happy Mother's Day to all the Great Mom's of the world!

Today, we celebrate and remember the greatest contributions of every woman in our society. Those who say that women are just artifacts of our home, they are those men whose egos are bigger than their balls. Those whose principle in life are infected and are manifested with that of principles of those who lived in the ancient world, where women are considered sexual slaves of men, whose rights are very limited and whose voice are not heard, thus they do not have right to speak in their society.

But, gone are those days when we unfairly threated every woman in this world. The world has finally awakened and revolved. Thanks to the 1848 1st World Women Convention held in Seneca Falls, NY, a declaration of sentiments and resolutions setting the Women's rights was signed and implemented freeing every woman to freely speak and state their opinions the same way men does.

That was the very first initiative which served as eye-opener for every Countries in the World to look into changing their perspective towards woman, and the Philippines was one of those who dreamed of freeing every woman and let them interact with men to do the same thing men can.

Meet PH Performing Moms

The Philippines had its very first Female (Lady) President in the persona of Corazon C. Aquino, Mother of the incumbent Philippine President Benigno Aquino III. Mrs. Aquino ousted the dictatorship of then President Ferdinand Marcos after the height of EDSA People Power Revolution, the World's historic people power revolution that ousted the 20-year of Marcos dictatorship.

Philippines' First Female (woman) President Corazon C. Aquino

Next to Mrs. Aquino, was the predecessor and College Professor of her son Benigno Aquino III, President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo. PGMA served the country for two consecutive terms. First few years of her term was when Manila-Mayor Joseph Estrada, the first ever Philippine President ousted because of graft and corruption charges was ousted which made Ms. Arroyo as the next Philippine President hence she won the Vice-Presidential bid in 1998.

Pres. Gloria Macapagal Aroyo faced so many Coup d'état attempts, impeachment plans/cases and the worst she encountered was the World recession that threatened her administration and the Country's economic stability. But, in spite of these, she managed to still save the economy of the Country, the same time where good economic trend started and fortunately was inherited by her predecessor’s administration. But instead of getting credits, she was then blamed for unproven irregularities that accordingly happened in her terms. Another unfortunate event happened when she was prevented from seeking medication overseas where her doctors reside and instead was put on hospital arrest for cases that cannot be confirmed and judged. These happened when her former student won the Presidency that election of May 2010.

Should the Philippines not adopt the International humanitarian and Women's right laws, the Country could have not produce these Female Philippine leaders who ran the government. We do not just look at the first two Philippine Female leaders, there are more Filipino Female's on the list whole-heartedly are serving the Filipinos, And one of them is Senator Miriam Defensor Santiago.

Sen. Miriam Defensor-Santiago

Sen. Santiago, is the Country's best and top performing legislator. She is currently running and aspiring to be the next Philippine President. In spite of her issues on health (diagnosed to have stage 4 lung cancer, which she and her American Doctors claimed to have been healed with the help of a "secret" anti-cancer pills) she still managed to pass 436 bills, 436 of which she was the principal author. She also filed 181 resolutions, 179 of which were introduced by her. She was the only Senator known for zero-tolerance against crimes and corruptions. In fact, from among the five Presidentiables, it was only Sen. Santiago who has the cleanest record from graft and corruption issues to lavish political campaign expenses, she was never dragged on it. In fact, her opponents have begun campaigning even outside of the campaign period while Senator Santiago was still busy doing her job in the Senate.

What's in it for you?

We are featuring the three great Philippine Female leaders of our generation above, because of their exemplary performance and contribution to the nation-building, the growth of our Country. Do note that in spite of their busy schedules and above-the-neck responsibilities, -  at the end of the day – of their Office hours, they are also regular and ordinary mother to their beloved children, and they are indeed the best example of a great Mother in this World, able to sacrifice everything for the welfare of their family.

Now, Given the fact that we have Mrs. Aquino, Mrs. Arroyo and Mrs. Santiago as the Country's top women who have exercised and are promoting women's rights, the questions like these remains -  Do women really have absolute right? Are they really protected from physical, sexual and mental forms of abuse from their partners and or their peers? Can they really do what every man does?

Mother's Day aren't just for performing Women

The answer above is it depends. As long as we have love and respect for everyone, abuse is inevitable. The almighty Father provided every resources and ways on how we can save our lives from abuse, it is now up for every woman in this world to choose where and which path they would go and traverse the life they chose to live. If your man does not have respect on you, try to talk, adjust and understand. Remember it wasn't your friend, your neighbor or your family who chose to have you live with that man you love, it was all your decision, hence, it was that love that put you in that situation, live on it and think of better ways you and your children can live the normal way. Remember this is one of the traits great Mom's has - saving their children from broken roofs - if you know what I mean.

My Mother once said to my sister - "Someday you will be a mother too - you will understand how it is to be a real Mother. Being a mother is not really an easy job, especially if you will be growing children who aren't really yours - children that aren't from your flesh"

Every Mom's in the world have different stories, different experiences and sacrifices - and that unique situations and traits of them made them unique Best Mom's in the World. And we are here to greet them Happy Mother's Day!

I love you Mom and I miss you so much!
