Manila, Philippines - The coalition among PDP-Laban with Liberal Party, Nationalist People’s Coalition and other independent Senators is already in the works.
The said move from the said parties aim to create a super majority that will support Senator Koko Pimentel’s bid for the Senate Presidency in the 17th Congress.
According to Senator Tito Sotto, they have already set a meeting so that they will have a clear idea on the next leadership in the Senate.
Yesterday, incoming Senator Panfilo Lacson tweeted that there are already atleast 20 Senators that are part of the Super Majority.
Part of the commitment of the Super Majority in the Senate is their support on the legislative agenda of the Duterte administration.
However, if there were Senators who already expressed their support on the Super Majority coalition, two Senators are evidently missing from the said list.
According to Pimentel, Senators Francis Escudero and Antonio Trillanes IV have mentioned to him their intention to join the minority in the 17th Congress instead.
Escudero clarified that he has no problem with Pimentel being the Senate President but because of his principles and beliefs, he would like to be part of the minority.
Aside from Escudero and Trillanes, Senators Alan Peter Cayetano, Cynthia Villar, JV Ejercito, Miguel Zubiri and Dick Gordon are also part of the minority in the 17th Congress.
Current Senate President Franklin Drilon on the other hand, has accepted the position of Senate President Protempore while Senator Tito Sotto will be the Majority Floor leader.
