LAS VEGAS – Nonito Donaire Jr. and Jessie Magdaleno also had no problems making the super bantamweight limit of 122 pounds during the official weigh-in ceremony at the Encore Theater here in Wynn Las Vegas on Friday (Saturday in Manila).
Wearing green shorts, Donaire, who will stake his WBO super bantamweight crown, registered 121.8 pounds at the scales.
He quickly stepped off the weighing scale after posing for some shots.
Magdaleno, for his part, weighed almost exactly as Donaire at 121.25 pounds. The 24-year-old prospect flexed both biceps afterwards in a show of confidence
Both fighters are looking to steal the show in a stacked fight card headlined by Manny Pacquiao’s quest to dethrone WBO welterweight champion Jessie Vargas. Like Donaire and Magaleno, Pacquiao and Vargas are within the weight limit for their fight.
A day before they hit the scales, Donaire and Magdaleno promised fireworks, with the latter issuing the bigger threat.
“I hope he (Donaire) comes with his A-Game, because we're gonna rip his head off,” the Las Vegas-based told reporters at the undercard press conference.
“It's gonna be an all-out action. We're gonna brawl out. Either for 12 rounds, or whatever round he wants to go down,” he added.
“I don't see it going past the eighth (round),” added Magdaleno, who stressed that he is not fazed by the more experienced Donaire.
“I see everybody as the same. Everybody is a human being. You bleed, you're the same as me,” he continued.
Donaire, meanwhile, downplayed his challenger’s trash-talking and antics.
“My only focus is only victory. I don't care what he does. I don't worry about what he's capable off,” said Donaire.
“He’s a kid.”
