SPORT: Adamson keeps No. 2 bid alive; UE spoils UP’s graceful exit

MANILA, Philippines — Adamson University remained in contention for the UAAP’s second spot after masterfully clawing National University, 77-53.

Falcons big man Papi Sarr led the crew in scoring with 22 points. Jonathan Espeleta and Frederick Tungcab added 22 and 15, respectively.Adamson, who is now helmed by decorated UAAP coach Franz Pumaren, stretched their wins to four.

Bulldogs’ Jayjay Alejandro logged 15 points, but was the only cager to finish in double digits.
Adamson and Far Eastern University are now tied behind league-leader De La Salle. They will still have a chance to break and determine who will get a twice-to-beat advantage for the Final Four leg this coming Wednesday.

Earlier, University of the East foiled what could’ve been a sweet season finish for University of the Philippines, 80-67.

The Red Warriors took control of the game in the second salvo and never looked back, leaning on the scoring of Philip Manalang and Edson Batiller who both finished with 14 markers.

Fighting Maroons skipper Jett Manuel tallied 14. Dave Moralde and Henry Asilum combined for 18. All three are graduating this season.

UP's first win and last loss of the year came in the hands of the UE.

Under their new head coach Bo Perasol, the Fighting Maroons posted best record since the 2005-2006 season, where they were 6-8.

The Bulldogs and the Maroons both end their UAAP campaign with a 5-9 record.

Meanwhile, a 9-5 logjam could happen on Wednesday game if Ateneo loses against Adamson. FEU, who are highly favored against UE in the first game, are also touting 8-5 card. - via PhilSport
