MANILA - The Senate Committee on Justice and Human Rights will call a caucus today and discuss whether or not it will continue with its hearing on the alleged extra-judicial killings amid the Duterte administration’s war on illegal drugs.

According to its chairman, Senator Richard Gordon, after five hearings, they will have to assess if there is still a need for another hearing on the said matter.

During Monday’s Senate hearing which took almost 12 hours, only four of the 16 members of the Philippine National Police testified at the Senate and all of them denied the existence of the so-called ‘Davao Death Squad.’

Gordon also has recommended to the Commission on Human Rights that if they have enough evidence against those mentioned in the alleged “DDS”, then they should immediately file charges against them in court.

The “resource persons” from the PNP who were present during the Senate hearing on Monday included Dionisio Abude, SPO3 Arthur Lascanas, PO3 Enrique Agao, and SPO1 Vivencio Jumawan.  The said police officers are already undergoing investigation by the CHR, based on the testimony of Edgar Matobato.

For now, the hearing for the alleged extra-judicial killings has been put on hold until further notice.  Monday’s hearing ended with Senator Leila De Lima’s walking out.
