MANILA - The Philippines is capable of defending itself even without the help of other countries.
This was the reaction of Armed Forces of the Philippines Spokesman Brig. Gen. Restituto Padilla amid possible severing of ties between the US and the Philippines because it is what President Rodrigo Duterte wants.

General Padilla said that the AFP has its own capability and capacity to fight off threats of terrorism and other challenges against internal security of the country.

However, Padilla hopes that our soldiers will not have to go to war amid being attacked by foreign intruders because the country is friends with all the countries, including those in our neighboring Asia.

“The current status of our country is that we are friends with all our neighbors, we abide by the constitutional policy of always prioritizing peace and that’s exactly what we are doing, so within the scope of our capabilities we are able to protect our interest at the moment and that far I can go.”

Padilla made the statement during the opening of PHIBLEX 2016 wherein more than two thousand US and Filipino soldiers are participating in what could be the last joint military exercises between the two countries. with Florante Rosales
