MANILA, Philippines – As far as high-profile spectators go, the Ateneo-La Salle clash has it all.
On Sunday, De La Salle University had a new fan. And it came in form of a kingmaker.
Manny Pacquiao's longtime trainer Freddie Roach was among the 16,212 in attendance at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
Clad in a green shirt with the letters DLSU across his chest, Roach stated the obvious: "I like green."
"I like Notre Dame, I like Irish," he added. "I met the players and the coaches and I liked them."
"This is the first time in the college level," Roach added. The legendary boxing coach was with DLSU in their game against UE. But this is the first time he saw the Archers in full 40 minutes of action.
“I’m always into college basketball wherever I am in the world. It’s a great sport and I think it’s going to be a lot of fun,” he said.
Roach is in town to train Pacquiao for his return to boxing this November. The boxer-turned-senator will be taking on American Jessie Vargas in Las Vegas.
